Overview
The valley of
five hearths.
Legend says the Pandavas cooked their last meal on the five chulhas — hearths — that give Panchachuli its name. From the villages of Dugtu and Dantu, all five snow towers stand in a single window, catching fire at sunrise.
The Darma road runs from Dharchula past Sobla, threading Dar, Sela and Baling before the valley opens wide. You sleep in Rung family homestays — butter tea, buckwheat rotis, and stories of the Tibet trade in the kitchen's warmth.
Base camp day is a 12 km round-trip over meadows and moraine — honest walking that most fit beginners manage happily, with no technical ground.
